I need a ride to and from Portage for the Almanac Shouters’ show at
MilhouseAnthill this coming Friday. Does anyone know someone who could help me out and isn’t an axe murderer?
I don’t think I can adequately describe how unbelievably excited I am about this show. One of the only things I frequently mention regretting is missing all of my opportunities to see The Almanac Shouters before they broke up.
I only got to see them with Defiance Ohio in Sept. ‘10 at the The DAAC. It was the first time I’d heard of them. And they just blew me away. Their whole set I wished so much I’d knew their songs so I could sing along with everyone else. And when they played Going Nowhere I about started crying right there in a crowd of people because it was one of those perfect songs at the perfect moment in my life I needed to hear those words. And went right out and bought their cd and a t-shirt and found out they were from Kzoo and I was like WHAT THE FUCK AWESOME. And then stupid, scared, depressed little me knew they were playing in town many times after that and I didn’t fucking take the initiative to go a couple miles down the road to see them.
After I had A Long Road Home I listened to it about 50 times in a week. I listen to it a lot in the days leading up to any convention or trip I take. And its absolute required listening in the car on every trip I take. I don’t care who’s with me, if they’ll like it or not. It’s my travelin’ tunes. Those songs have seen me to Baltimore and Boston. Chicago, Detroit, DC, Knoxville, Nashville, Milwaukee and more. I fondly remember driving down a long straight road that ran next to some railroad tracks and blasting Little Black Train with my mother on our way to Peoria, IL on cold clear January day.
And ever since I finally stopped being dumb and started going to shows a lot I always cross my fingers that they’d do a show again (and I wouldn’t be out of town or something if they did). Dreams coming true. lol. I wouldn’t miss this for the world. <3
Can I just say this is probably the nicest thing I’ve ever read about my old band? This makes me miss playing folk music with my friends/for my friends.
Aw jeez, this is really sweet.
